It's 20 years today since I finished my one and only London Marathon, in the same year that Paula Radcliffe broke the women's record for the course. I was interested this year to hear and read about the organisers' efforts for the planet. I hope you find it as interesting as I did.

The image above from their website covers a single marathon, but click through to read about their broader initiatives. Twenty years ago they had free transport within the London area for runners - oh how this has been built upon! Water bottles that are recycled plastic, and will be recycled again. The cars are electric and the baggage lorries are powered by biofuel. Compostable cups, mile markers that are re-used from last year, and my personal favourite - Trees not Ts - for those who choose not to have a T-shirt, they can plant a tree instead!
